What is Botox Cosmetic?
Botulinum toxin A has been licensed in Canada since 1990. It was and still is used to treat a number of neuromuscular disorders such as cerebral palsy and  several eye muscle disorders.  Health Canada approved Botox for cosmetic use in 2001. Botox Cosmetic is a product in liquid form that is injected  in very small volumes into superficial muscles. The resulting muscle relaxation lasts for 3 to 6 months. It has become the most common cosmetic procedure in North America, including all surgical procedures.

What can Botox can do for you?
Botox Cosmetic will make you look less tired, less tense, and more peaceful. Your eyes will  be lifted, and more open. Your kids will tell you that you look  less “mad”!  All this contributes to a younger look.
Botox Cosmetic works by relaxing superficial muscles in the face that are responsible for creating the wrinkles associated with facial movement. Sensation in your face remains completely unaffected. The muscle relaxation last from 3 - 6 months, and gradually dissipates over time. The facial muscles will return to the way they were before the Botox. It is recommended that you repeat your Botox treatment before it has completely worn off.  After several treatments you will find that the time between treatments can be increased.

Cosmetic Fillers
Fillers are manufactured gels that are composed of hyaluronic acid(HA). This  natural compound is found throughout the body, and helps with joint lubrication and gives shape to the eyes. HA is also found in the skin, where it attracts water and adds volume to the skin structures. As we age, we lose HA and our skin loses volume, which in turn leads to deep furrows and wrinkles. Where botox relaxes muscles and softens wrinkles, the fillers will  fill in wrinkles that remain when the facial muscles are at rest. These two products work very well together. Fillers such as Juvederm and Restylane are non animal based and therefore far less likely to cause any adverse reaction. It is a safe natural product that adds subtle volume to soften wrinkles around the nose and mouth.

Harmony

Our Harmony laser is an AFT  (Advanced Florescent Technology) laser that has several exciting uses. There are many attachable hand pieces that emit light in a different wavelength to reach its intended target.  

Hair Reduction

Laser hair reduction is a permanent solution to unwanted hair. After several treatments approximately 2 weeks apart you will find smooth soft skin without the pain, rashes or ingrown hairs of shaving or waxing. The number of treatments necessary will vary from person to person.  

Facial Rejuvenation

This application will significantly decrease your facial dark pigmented lesions and redness associated with superficial blood vessels. The pores will become smaller and less noticeable.  The skin tone of your face and neck will be much more uniform. The number of treatments will vary from person to person, but a significant difference will be appreciated with 5 to 8 treatments that are administered every 3 to 5 weeks. It is very important that the face be protected from the sun for at least 4 weeks prior to treatment by using sunscreen with SPF 30. We also recommend ongoing use of sunscreen after your treatments are complete, to ensure maintenance of your beautiful skin.

Pigmented Lesions

Individual pigmented lesions can also be treated with our Harmony laser.  A template can be laid over the lesion to allow laser light penetration of only the lesion to be removed. This may take several treatments a week apart but is very effective at removing these dark pigmented lesions, without any resultant scaring. 

Acne

Acne is a skin condition that can affect patients of all ages. It is initiated by sebaceous glands in the skin that become blocked by sebum production. This allows bacteria to set up an inflammatory reaction, resulting in a pimple. The Harmony laser will target these acne lesions to destroy the bacteria and decrease the inflammation. It can very affectively treat moderate inflammatory acne. More severe acne can be treated  by combining Levulan treatment with laser light activation. Levulan is a topical solution that is painted on the skin and light activated, with remarkable results. A pre treatment consult is essential to determine the best treatment for your skin.

Accent

Accent utilizes new and exciting technology to decrease cellulite and tighten the overlying skin.  It causes a slow increase in local temperature to help the body metabolize fat.

Body Shaping/Cellulite Reduction

What is Cellulite?

Cellulite is caused by fibrous cross bridges that are located between the skins’ surface and the deeper dermal layers.  The fat lobules that are located between these layers are trapped by the cross bridges and create dimples on the surface of the skin.

How Does Accent Work?

Accent uses radiofrequency(RF)  energy to produce heat to modify the connective tissue and increase microcirculation. The RF energy  of the Unipolar head penetrates 15 to 20 millimeters into the skin to the deeper dermal layers where it heats up the water found in the dermis. This decreases the size of the fat deposits, allowing the body to resorb the smaller particles. The heat also improves lymphatic drainage and circulation to the skin and its surrounding tissues. Results will vary, depending upon the water content in your tissues. Accent is a 2 step process, combining both cellulite reduction and skin tightening with every treatment. Areas to be treated are chosen after an initial consultation and treated every 1 to 2 weeks. Most people will require 6 sessions. The procedure is largely painless and there is no downtime following each treatment.

Skin Tightening

The Bipolar head of Accent is used for skin tightening. This treatment penetrates the skin only 2 to 4 millimeters. It sets up an inflammatory response that draws the bodies own collagen to the area, resulting in skin tightening over the following 2 to 6 months. The affect of increased collagen lasts at least 3 years, just like the life span of our pre existing collagen.
